Salver - .950 silver - Lorraine / Silver Minerva

Petit plateau / dish / Coin tray Art Deco in partly frosted molded glass with edelweiss decoration, the mount in silver (950/00 - Minerve hallmark).
The plateau is signed “Lorrain” (Les Frères DAUM)

Since the glass production date must be between 1925 and 1934, the silver ring logically is in 950/1000 silver because at that time the Minerve 1st title hallmark corresponded to 950/1000 silver (becoming 925/1000 from 1973)

The small plateau / dish is in good condition for its age (almost a century)! Note, however, the presence of a few small air bubbles in the glass (visible in the photos) and especially the fact that the small plate has been used, so there are many scratches on the surface of the glass (visible particularly in photos where the plate is tilted in front of a strong light source)

But do not lose sight of the fact that despite all these “defects” (which I have highlighted extensively in my photos in the interest of transparency) the dish remains a very beautiful decorative and collectible piece, ideal for an elegant interior, a collection for a prestigious French house (DAUM) or a refined gift!

A bit of history:

The signature “Lorrain,” found on many decorative glass objects, comes from the Verreries Belle Étoile, located in CROISMARE (near Lunéville).

This “Verrerie Belle Étoile” manufacture was created on December 15, 1925 by Antonin Daum to sell competitively priced articles different from those produced by the Daum factory in Nancy (indeed at that time competition was fierce among “Daum,” the “Frères Muller,” and even a few other European glassmakers, and Antonin Daum thus wanted to create a Daum sub-brand at a more attractive price for the general public).

Thus, under the impulse of Antonin Daum, the Belle Étoile glassworks came into being, and Paul Daum became its director.

Productions are often signed “Lorrain” or “Lorrain France” or “Lorrain Nancy France,” either molded in relief, or engraved with a tool, or painted with enamel (as in the present vase shown to you).

The 1930s economic crisis affected the Verrerie Belle Étoile; it permanently closed its doors on December 16, 1934. A portion of its 120 workers was reassigned to the Daum factory in Nancy.

For a bit of history, it was in the town of “Croismares” that the Muller brothers started their business on their own, opening the doors of the “Grande Verrerie de CROISMARES” just after training with master glassmaker Émile Gallé and just before establishing themselves a little later in Lunéville…
