Column (2) - 1900-1910

Pair of elegant floral columns or Portuguese peanhas, executed in carved mahogany, dating from the early 20th century, circa 1900–1920. They feature a tall and openwork structure, with circular tops edged inlaid with vegetal motifs, small intermediate platforms and cut-out uprights. The decoration is particularly elaborate, consisting of scrolls, volutes, acanthus leaves and turned elements. Tripartite bases, resting on curved feet ending in volutes, articulated around central cylindrical and turned elements. The ornamental language fits the historicist taste inspired by neorococo or Louis XV, combined with neobaroque touches, widely used in Portuguese decorative furniture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Pieces with a strong sculptural presence, suitable for displaying sculptures, vases, flower pots or other decorative objects. Dimensions: 103 × 34 × 34 cm each.
