Description from the seller

Description and origin: an attractive hand-knotted village rug attributed to the Khndzoresk (Chondoresk) by the European auction house where it was purchased. Weaving tradition from the historic Zangezur/Syunik region of Armenia. The rug features a striking geometric cruciform medallion set within a brick-red field, surrounded by multiple borders of stylised floral and geometric motifs. The bold drawing and harmonious palette of madder red, ivory, ochre, turquoise and aubergine are characteristic of traditional South Caucasian village weaving. The rug is woven entirely in wool, including the wool pile on a wool foundation, a feature associated with traditional Caucasian craftsmanship. The weaving displays the subtle asymmetries and individual character typical of authentic village production. .

Dimensions: 181 cm x 145 cm

Age: approx. 100 years

Condition: overall in good condition with trace of ageing
