I'm trimming down my personal collection, and this is one of the bodies that has to go with a heavy heart.
The Rittreck 6×6 is a remarkable piece of Japanese camera history: the model was produced only briefly by Musashino Kōki in the late 1960s, before the entire system was taken over by Norita. Consequently, today there aren’t many examples left, and certainly not in this condition.
What really sets this camera apart is that the viewfinder prism is completely intact. With most Rittreck and Norita cameras you now see desilvering in the finder, causing the image to be blurry or speckled, but this one is not affected at all. The finder is clear.
The Norita viewfinder that comes with it is also something collectors often seek on its own, because it is missing or damaged on many bodies.
The camera itself feels and operates like a large 35mm SLR, but with the image quality of 6×6 medium format.
Everything runs smoothly, the shutter works nicely, and I have used it every few months for personal projects.
The best part remains, without a doubt, the 80mm f/2 Rittron lens.
For a medium-format lens, f/2 is exceptionally bright, and you can see that in the photos: soft, pleasant bokeh and surprising sharpness when used wide open.
