"Nostalghia," a collection of works by Yutaka Takanashi, one of Japan’s leading photographers. From his commercial work dating back to the 1960s—best exemplified by “Otsukaresama”—to his “Provoke” activities alongside Takuma Nakahira and Daido Moriyama, and from his exceptional camerawork in both professional and personal contexts to his theories on photography, Takanashi’s philosophy culminated in 1974 with the collection *Toward the City* (including *Tokyo People*). Thereafter, shifting his focus from the “city” to the “town,” he immersed himself in photographing the “downtown” neighborhoods in color, carrying a large-format camera on his back as he traveled by bus and streetcar; these works were compiled into *Town*, a masterpiece that followed *Toward the City*. In the 1980s, he left the city and traveled to every corner of the country to take photographs, resulting in the publication of *Hatsukuni*; however, this volume marks a return to the city and is composed of color works shot in the 2000s. It also includes a fold-out insert featuring monochrome “Windscapes” from the provinces.
