The Song of Songs. Translated by Claude Grégory. Fifteen drawings by Henri Matisse.

Matisse is generally regarded, together with Pablo Picasso, as one of the artists who most helped define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the early decades of the 20th century.

Work number 1834. Portfolio of 15 beautiful very early lithographs by Henri Matisse, book number 1834 published by “Le Club Français du Livre” in 1962. Format: 24 × 21 cm, loose leaves with a wrapped cover.

Strictly limited and numbered edition.

Composed by hand in Garamont type 24, after the designs of Jacques Daniel, it was completed for printing by the workshops of Imprimerie Union, in Paris, on 20 September 1962, on large sheets of pure rag paper from the Marais.

9 leaves, 90 pages numbered on only one side, i.e., 180 pages.

Not foliated; only the pages of the French translation in black text bear pagination, the original Latin text in red facing them.
