Description from the seller
RADIO PHONOGRAPH ZENITH J644 – YEAR 1952 (Chicago, USA)
Beautiful valve radio and phonograph Zenith Cobra-Matic J664 from 1952, offering excellent condition despite its more than 70 years of age.
Its distinctive dark brown Bakelite case and its striking front, inspired by American cars of the era, are preserved in perfect condition.
Manufactured by Zenith Radio Corp. of Chicago (USA) in 1952, it comes equipped with a turntable that features the variable speed Cobra Matic function.
It is a great addition to any vintage audio collection, where the Zenith brand’s quality speaks for itself.
This model in particular, the J664, is a find and an excellent investment for anyone looking to expand their collection, as well as a great conversation piece.
The radio is in perfect working order, its sound is powerful and of good quality, it even has tone control in the central button and clearly picks up all local AM stations without the need for an external antenna.
The turntable has not been thoroughly tested; the phono cartridge has no needle (the cartridge seems to be in good condition) and the platter spins, but it needs to be checked as, when tested, it does not reach the proper speed. The automatic changer mechanism seems to work as it should, but it does not operate correctly due to the platter speed alteration.
Overall the item is in excellent condition and presents only some very superficial wear on its exterior, not noticeable in photographs; a true jewel for any collector or enthusiast.
