This splendid piece of Nyamwezi tribal art (people of Tanzania) features remarkable morphological and stylistic characteristics:

Proportions and silhouette: The wooden statue has a dark, ancient patina. It stands out for a deliberate and expressive disproportion between a large-format head, topped by a high, rounded forehead, and a cylindrical, long, powerful neck.
The face: The features are clean yet expressive. The eyes are formed by horizontal incised slits, topped by pronounced eyebrow arches, while the nose is straight and fine. The ears, circular and horizontal, are set apart on either side of the head, pierced at their centers.
Anatomical attributes: The female body is upright on firmly anchored feet. The breasts are prominent, conical, and pointed forward. In profile, there is a marked curvature of the spine and a clear bounce of the buttocks (moderate steatopygia).
Patina and surface: The wood’s surface bears the marks of time, age cracks, and a beautiful patina of use, polished in places, bearing witness to rites and traditional handling.
