Framed antique hand-painted galant fan on silk, with a gilded demi‑moon frame and under‑glass presentation, of French origin dating to the 1960s–1980s, showing a romantic garden scene with birds, flowers and architectural motifs, with natural light-coloured horn-like rods and a red velvet background, 35 × 52 cm, in good condition with slight age-related wear and a possible S. Roselle signature on the back.
Description from the seller
Large antique framed fan, hand-painted gallant decor, early 20th century.
Superb antique fan presented in its elegant original crescent-shaped frame with a gold decoration.
The leaf, made of a fine fabric (probably silk or silk gauze), is hand-painted with a charming gallant scene inspired by the eighteenth century.
It depicts several figures in a romantic garden adorned with a birdcage, flowers and architectural elements.
The ribs in natural white material (possibly worked horn) are richly ornamented with gold rocaille motifs.
They feature an original openwork design allowing the red background to show through, creating a very beautiful contrast and a sense of depth.
The whole is presented under glass on a red velvet background and preserved in its old gilded frame.
A handwritten pencil signature is visible on the back, seeming to read "S. Roselle" (reading to be confirmed).
The frame has not been opened in order to preserve its original assembly.
A refined and elegant piece, ideal for a collection of antique fans or to enrich a classical, romantic, or Belle Époque-style interior.
Very good presentation condition considering its age, the painted décor well preserved, gilding still prominent, some normal traces of time and minor wear due to age, signs of wear with small gaps at the pierced holes, signature visible on the back, old frame with patina of use; see photos as they are part of the description.
