Silver ducat, struck at Utrecht in 1663 under the mint master Johan Gerobulus. As the mint mark, the Utrecht city shield is affixed. This type was struck without a separate mint-master mark.
The year 1663 is very rare within the Utrecht silver ducat series and appears only sporadically on the market. The specimen also bears an unknown die-mark. The origin and meaning of this could not yet be established. This mark gives the coin an extra historical and numismatic interest.
