Large Delft dish – De Drie Klokken – ca. 1720–1760
Very fine and large Delft tin-glazed dish with a diameter of 34 cm, produced by the pottery De Drie Klokken in Delft. The dish is richly painted in cobalt blue on a white tin-glazed ground and forms a fine example of the high-quality Delft faience from the first half of the 18th century.
The central decoration shows a stylized flower- or fruit-bowl with a fan motif, surrounded by a wide border with alternating large floral ornaments and geometric panels. The composition is clearly inspired by Chinese Kangxi porcelain, which at the time served as a model for many Delft plate makers.
The reverse bears the mark of De Drie Klokken, one of the well-known Delft pottery manufactories of the 18th century.
Condition
The dish is in good antique condition, with no restorations. Only light edge wear and normal signs of use and age, entirely appropriate for its age. The glaze has a beautiful authentic appearance.
