Beautiful 18th-century wooden statue of a seated putto (angel), fully hand-carved from solid wood. The putto is depicted with finely worked wings, flowing hair, and an elegantly draped loincloth. In the left hand he holds a richly carved laurel wreath with leaf motif, a classic symbol of victory, honour, and eternity.

On the basis of the style, the craftsmanship of the woodcarving, the anatomy of the putto, and the construction, the statue is likely from the Southern Netherlands or Southern Europe (Italy or Spain). Such putti were commonly used in the 18th century as decorative elements in church interiors, altars, retables, and stately townhouses.

The statue is made of solid wood and stands on a wooden plinth. The current gray-silver patinated finish was probably applied later; traces of an older polychromy and gilding are still visible in several places. The natural wood shrinkage, hand-carved details, and signs of age support a dating to the 18th century.

Condition
Good antique condition with wear appropriate to age. The statue shows normal wear, hairline cracks in the wood, and old restorations. The laurel wreath is partially damaged and restored on the back. The wooden plinth also shows some age cracks. The photos are an integral part of the description.
