Description from the seller

Michel Caugant – Decorative terrine in pheasant shape – Hand-painted French faience

Original terrine with lid by Michel Caugant, a prestigious French manufacturer known for his faience pieces molded in animal shapes.

Made in faience (glazed earthenware) and completely hand-painted, it depicts a pheasant with great realism. It retains the original lid and the maker’s inscription on the base:
"This piece in genuine faience has been entirely made by hand…"

Although in the auction catalog it is presented as a terrine, this type of Michel Caugant pieces is also known among collectors as a decorative lidded container or zoömorphic terrine, highly valued for its craftsmanship and decorative value.

The piece is in very good condition, with no visible chips or restorations. The glaze maintains an excellent shine and the decoration retains all its intensity.
