Description from the seller

19th-Century Vermeil Chalice

Solid sterling silver of first quality (Minerva head, first assay - 925/1000)

Work by the Parisian silversmith Joseph-Philippe-Adolphe Dejean (punch with an anchor and a star).

Total weight: 525 grams
Height: 19 cm
Diameter of the cup: 9.5 cm
Base width: 17.5 cm

This unique vermeil piece — solid silver coated with a thick layer of pure gold — is distinguished by exceptionally high-relief chasing work. This thickness of gilding testifies to the traditional manufacturing techniques of the 19th century, a guarantee of remarkable quality and durability.

It is adorned with several detailed religious scenes, including a crucifixion on the base, the Virgin and Child, representations of disciples, as well as angels and fruit motifs.

This chalice bears the engraved inscription: "Don du Chanoine Turmel, curé de Dol 1883-1915", bearing witness to its history. It is in excellent condition, with the gilding retaining its full luster.
