Ancient Sassanian Bronze Tiger Figurine (224–651 CE)
A rare bronze figurine attributed to the Sassanian Empire (224–651 CE), depicting a stylised tiger or large feline. Animal figures held important symbolic significance in Sassanian art, representing strength, courage, guardianship, and royal authority.
The sculpture features a compact, stylised form with a ribbed neck, prominent eyes, and sturdy legs, characteristic of ancient Near Eastern bronze craftsmanship. Its surface exhibits an attractive natural green patina and oxidation developed over centuries, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and historical character.
This piece was acquired approximately 10 years ago and has remained in a private collection since. It represents an appealing addition for collectors of ancient Persian art, Sassanian antiquities, and archaeological bronze artefacts.
