RARE NKISI POWERFIGURE - Songye - DR Congo

A fine powerfigure of the Songye people living in Congo.
Ex collection of the late Andrezj von Staranburg Niedenthal, a wellknown collector in London.
Now in my private Dutch collection.

A male Songye fetish, a Nkisi/Nkondi powerfigure.
According to Francois Neyt this type belongs to the Second Western Tradition.
Regions of the Northern Milembwe, the Balande and the Eki.

Oval mouth elongated with showing teeth, some teeth missing as common at this type.
Cubistic legs.
Material: wood, beads, upholstery nails, horn on top.
