Bettina Rheims – Can You Find Happiness?
Schirmer/Mosel, Munich, 2008
First edition – English edition
Photography – Portrait – Nude – Fashion – Femininity – Contemporary photography
Important monograph of the French photographer Bettina Rheims, bringing together a representative selection of nearly thirty years of photographic creation.
Since the early 1980s, Bettina Rheims has placed the female body, identity, seduction and representations of femininity at the center of her work. Her portraits, often staged and deliberately provocative, blend fashion photography, contemporary portraiture and nude photography.
Can You Find Happiness? offers an overview of several major series from her career, including Chambre Close, KIM, I.N.R.I., Shanghai and Héroïnes, allowing the evolution of her photographic language from the 1980s to the 2000s to be traced.
The volume includes 113 photographs, mostly in color, as well as a text by Philippe Dagen, art critic at Le Monde and art historian.
Published by Schirmer/Mosel in 2008, the work accompanies the Bettina Rheims – Can You Find Happiness? exhibition shown in Berlin the same year.
