Rare ensemble of antique optical instruments bringing together four iconic pieces of the Belle Époque.

The lot includes an elegant pair of blackened brass field binoculars wrapped in leather, a theater binoculars in brass and nacre signed Lemaire Paris with its nacre handle, as well as two telescopic monoculars in brass and ivorine (or nacre), witnesses to the know-how of French opticians at the end of the 19th century.

The theater binoculars, signed Lemaire Paris, offer real collectible interest. A renowned house for the quality of its instruments, Lemaire supplied a demanding clientele frequenting theatres, operas and fashionable salons.

All four instruments are functional. They show a beautiful original patina, in keeping with their age, with minor signs of use that contribute to their authenticity. The optics are present and the focusing mechanisms operate.

This ensemble will appeal both to collectors of scientific instruments and to those who appreciate refined decoration or objects evoking travel, exploration and Belle Époque shows.
