Fon guardian - Botchoi - Fon - Togo

Well-used guardian figure, used in the Fon community of Togo to protect households from evil spirits. They were placed in front of the house or near the entrance. These spike-like wooden figures were reguralry poured-over with special liquids to enhance their protective qualities. This gives this figure a nice sacrificial patina. The lower part of the spike has been eroded by insects and is put on a wooden socle with a iron peg. Nice collectors item! Collected in Togo in the late 1990,s and from a private Dutch collection.
