Today at the auction we are offering you
Danish bread slicer from the Raadvad brand, specifically the iconic model 294. This device is regarded as an icon of Scandinavian utilitarian design.
Key information about the model:
Designer and history: This model was designed by Ove Larsen in 1939. Raadvad, founded in 1759, began producing cast iron guillotine slicers around 1890, and model 294 became the standard in Danish homes in the mid-20th century.
Intended use: Originally created for slicing dense, hard Danish rye bread (rugbrød), which traditional knives struggled with.
Construction: Made of heavy cast iron with a wooden feed and handle. It has a steel guillotine blade and a front screw that allows adjusting the thickness of the slices.
Color version: The example shown in the photo is in the original, less common orange color, characteristic of productions from the 1960s and 70s.
Condition: very good, sharp blade
