AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Islamic necklace with eye beads in vitreous paste from the 10th century AD. Good condition, 41 cm.
Eye bead glass beads whose main feature is circular eye-like decorations made using lampwork, inlay, or mosaic techniques. One of the best examples of eye beads is found among Islamic beads, mostly blue or green with white eyes, as well as eye-dotted Venetian glass beads (skunk). The eye decoration may be a single eye or several eyes scattered on the surface of the bead; they may be plain or concentric, using different colours. Eye beads may also feature some linear trails, zig-zags or floral decorations. Eye beads have been valued for centuries, and they still are, not only among Islamic people but also among African peoples, as they were regarded as strong amulets to avert the evil eye and for their alleged prophylactic and magical properties.

Acquired from a Spanish private collection, A.S.B in the 1980s.
-The piece includes an authenticity certificate.
