Large, important African mask (40 x 32 x 18) from the Grassfields area of Cameroon, attributed to the Bamileke/Bamum culture.
Carved wood, richly decorated with original polychrome glass beads, threaded on wire and applied by hand. The piece features a distinctive upper zoomorphic element, interpretable as a ritual bird with a long beak, symbol of authority and spiritual mediation.
This is an authentic traditional object, not a tourist reproduction:
complex and coherent craftsmanship
intact and well-preserved decoration
strong visual impact
Period: 20th century (approximately 1970s–1990s)
Origin: French private collection
Conditions: excellent, with normal signs of wear
