Antique writing reliquary (Schrijfheilig) made of walnut wood with hidden compartment

Elegant antique writing reliquary from the 19th century, crafted from beautifully figured walnut wood (or walnut veneer on a solid wooden base). The richly figured wood grain and the rounded lid give the box a luxurious and timeless appearance.
The interior is lined with a purple velvet writing surface and provided with various compartments for writing implements, ink pots and documents. Under the fold-out writing section there is a hidden storage compartment, a characteristic detail of quality writing boxes from this period.
The box is in a beautiful, authentic condition with normal signs of wear appropriate to its age. The velvet shows some wear and discoloration. The key is missing, so the lock has not been tested.
A stunning collectible and a stylish decorative piece that is also still functional.
