Description from the seller
2 Antique French balance scales – Cast iron & brass – Early 20th century up to 2 kg and 5 kg
French balance scale from the early 20th century (circa 1900–1920). This type of mechanical scale with equal arms (also known as the Roberval principle) was intensively used at the time in French grocery shops, markets and households. The scale features a heavy, robust cast-iron foot with the original, deep rusty-brown patina that testifies to decades of history and character. The construction is equipped with a gracefully decorated central pointer (needle) and two original copper or brass pans. A fantastic and atmospheric object, highly suitable as a decorative focal point in a rural kitchen, display window, or as part of a brocante collection.
