GENERAL:
Mercedes-Benz 230GE year 1983, 4-speed manual with a reducer and differential locks and central transfer case. The odometer shows 80,100 km and, given the overall mechanical condition of the car, they seem to be real. As an interest point for enthusiasts and collectors, 1983 was a emblematic year for the Geländewagen saga, solidifying the robustness of the W460 series. The 2.3-liter M102 engine with Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical injection present in this 230GE version marked a big leap in reliability and response compared to the previous carbureted models, being one of the most durable mechanics of the era due to its excellent balance between torque and simplicity. This exact model shares the military and rescue DNA that made the G-Class famous worldwide, turning it into a rising value in today’s classic car market thanks to its iconic three-lock configuration.
CARROCERÍA Y PINTURA:
The bodywork has small rust spots in several places as can be seen in the photos, which is fairly common in these cars as they tend to rust with the years, but there are no large or significant holes, making it an easy base to repair. The rear door hardly has rust and is not detached from the supports. The chassis also shows little rust and does not require welding or anything similar. The lower mechanical section shows quite a few rust marks but they are merely superficial, which ensures the vehicle has not been in seaside areas or high mountains. The rear trunk area shows no flaws, dents, scratches, or rubbing, proving it has not been subjected to rough handling. The original iron rims need to be repainted to look perfect, overall offering a very good base for a good and fast restoration.
MECHANICAL:
The engine starts easily and runs very smoothly. It needs basic routine maintenance consisting of changing the accessory belts, filters, and oil. The gearbox shifts well and smoothly, while the clutch also functions correctly without any wear detected. The braking system responds well, including the handbrake. The tires are in good condition to pass the ITV (enforcement) without any problem. The suspension and shock absorbers work properly. On the road it drives very well, remaining firm and without play in the tie rods or any unusual noises.
INTERIOR:
The cabin is notably well preserved for its age, where the seat upholstery and headlining are in good condition, maintaining the original, robust atmosphere of 1980s Mercedes-Benz.
DOCUMENTATION:
The available documentation consists of the French gray card signed with the deregistration for sale. With this documentation the vehicle is perfectly eligible to be registered as a classic or historic car in any EU member country.
