A beautiful brass microscope complete with its original wooden storage box. This type of compact microscope (field microscope or student model) was widely used around the turn of the century, circa 1900, by students, doctors and naturalists.
The instrument is largely made of patinated brass with a heavy black-painted horseshoe-shaped foot for stability. The microscope features a manual coarse/fine focus knob on the side and a tiltable concave mirror on the underside to reflect light optimally onto the specimen stage. The tube slides smoothly up and down.
