Sideboard - Bronze, Mahogany

19th-century French Empire-style sideboard, executed in wood and mahogany veneer, with a front enhanced by the expressive and symmetric grain. It features a rectangular, compact frame, composed of a wide upper drawer and a lower body closed by two doors. The front is framed by two prominent columns, with dark fluted shafts, topped by bases and capitals in gilded bronze. The columns rest on square plinths, ending at the front in expressive zoomorphic feet in the shape of claws or paws, also made of metal. The upper drawer retains two circular bronze pulls, ornamented at the center with radiant motifs. Between them extends an extensive openwork vegetal application, symmetrically composed of scrolls, leaves and flowers, integrating at the center the keyhole entrance. The upper corners feature bronze ornamentation with floral designs and palmettes. The two doors are veneered with carefully chosen mahogany leaves arranged symmetrically, creating a mirrored effect in the wood grain. Each door is enriched by a large oval bronze escutcheon formed by branches, leaves, flowers and garlands, neoclassical in inspiration. At the center there are two extensive bronze keyhole entries, decorated with mascarons and vegetal motifs. One of them retains an oval-ring key, which also functions as the opening element. These mascarons, garlands, columns and claw feet fit the ornamental vocabulary associated with Empire furniture, which draws on classical antiquity motifs and frequently uses bronzes arranged symmetrically. The interior is entirely lined with mirrors, including the back and side surfaces, and features glass shelves. This configuration visually multiplies the light and the objects placed inside, allowing the piece to be used as a sideboard, bar, drinks cabinet, or display cabinet for porcelains, crystal, and decorative objects. The top is made of wood and has a slightly projecting edge. The piece shows signs of use consistent with its age and use.
