Description from the seller
Liturgical chalice with original paten – Cup in 800 gold-plated silver – Italy, early 20th century
Splendid Italian liturgical chalice dating to the early decades of the 20th century, accompanied by its original paten. A piece of notable quality, crafted with excellent artisanal skill and characterized by refined decorative richness, expression of the best Italian sacred goldsmithing tradition.
The cup is made of 800 silver, as evidenced by the hallmarks on the upper rim, and is fully gold-plated both inside and outside, a detail of great elegance that gives the chalice an extraordinary stage presence and enhances its value. The stem, knot and base are instead made of metal finely dipped in silver.
The entire body of the chalice is embellished with a rich ornamental repertoire in a neogothic taste, composed of stylized acanthus leaves, botanical motifs, arches and small finely chased cruciform elements, with punched surfaces that create a refined play of light and depth. The base, broad and perfectly proportioned, provides great balance to the composition and testifies to the quality of the workmanship.
The original paten accompanies the chalice, maintaining perfect stylistic coherence with the whole.
Condition is excellent. The object shows only slight signs of aging compatible with its age and normal use. At the base there is a very slight and almost imperceptible waviness, visible only on careful inspection and absolutely irrelevant from an aesthetic and functional standpoint.
