AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Antique French Louis XV-style "Progrès" red marble mantel clock, including pendulum and key, circa 1880.

This elegant and high-quality French mantel clock from the late 19th century, crafted from beautiful red marble (Rouge Griotte) with ornate patinated Rococo elements, dates from around 1880.

The watch is powered by an 8-day mechanical brass movement signed "PROGRÈS." The caseback bears the prestigious French patent "BARILLET DÉMONTABLE / BREVETÉ S.G.D.G." This innovative system allowed watchmakers to easily remove the mainspring barrel for maintenance without disassembling the entire movement, a hallmark of advanced French watchmaking in the late 19th century.

The clock is equipped with a double-row movement striking the hours and half-hours on a silvered internal bell.

Case and Appearance: The watch case is carved from rich terracotta-red marble with natural white veining. It rests on four heavy, asymmetrical Louis XV Revival-style feet crafted from cast patinated metal/bronze. The white enamel dial is in excellent visual condition, with crisp black Arabic numerals, an external minute track, and openworked hands.

The watch is offered complete and includes an authentic brass pendulum and T-bar winding key.

The marble exhibits minor surface abrasions, scratches, and light chipping along the edges. The top of the case has three original mounting holes, indicating that it was originally decorated with a sculpture/statue that is now missing.

The movement appears complete and clean. The pendulum and key are included.

Photos are part of the description. This item will be carefully packaged with plenty of protective material and in a sturdy shipping box. Shipping is insured and tracked.
