Baking dish - Murano glass

Elegant glass pocket tray or ashtray, blown and bubbled art glass, attributed to a Murano workshop, made using the famous Sommerso technique, emblematic of Italian glassmaking in the 1960s–1970s.

This piece features a free-form silhouette with four undulations, evoking a stylized flower. The thick walls showcase a subtle gradient of emerald green and aquamarine glass. The folded, fire-polished edges catch the light and enhance the sculptural elegance of the piece.

About the Sommerso technique

Sommerso (meaning “immersed” in Italian) consists of layering multiple colored glass sheets to obtain exceptional optical depth. Developed in Murano in the 1930s and popularized after World War II, this technique has become one of the most emblematic signatures of Italian glassmaking in the 20th century. The free, organic shapes combined with translucent colors make these objects highly sought after by Italian design collectors today.
