Description from the seller
Elegant Deco-era pair of photo frames, attributed to the 1920s-1930s period, bearing the signature “GALLOT Ed.” visible at the base of the decorations.
The two pieces feature a typiquement Art Déco composition portraying a stylized swallow in full flight, rendered in geometric and dynamic lines. The bird, with a gold finish reminiscent of brass, stands out against a decorative greenish patina circle, creating a particularly successful contrast.
Each photo frame rests on a rectangular black veined marble base, polished, with slightly softened corners. Two circular metal supports hold the glass plate intended to receive a photograph, postcard, or document.
Both decorations bear the inscription “GALLOT Ed.”, visible on the bases and photographed in detail.
The set combines several materials characteristic of decorative objects from this period: patinated and gilded brass-like metal, brass or gilded metal elements, glass and natural marble.
Dimensions and weight
Each photo frame measures about 30 cm in length × 13 cm in height × 6.5 cm in width.
Weight: about 900 g per piece, or 1.8 kg for the pair, excluding packaging.
Condition
Good overall condition considering age. Signs of use, small marks, patina wear, and oxidation consistent with antiquity. The glass plates also show irregularities and small marks visible in the photographs. The numerous photos are an integral part of the description and allow a precise assessment of the set’s condition.
The pair will be carefully protected for shipping, notably the glass plates and decorative elements.
About Gallot Ed.
The signature “GALLOT Ed.” appears on French decorative objects associated with Art Deco aesthetics, notably sculptures and decorative accessories that frequently feature stylized animals. Birds, particularly swallows depicted in movement, fit perfectly into the decorative vocabulary of the 1920s-1930s, a period when artists and manufacturers favored elongated silhouettes, geometric compositions, and the combination of contrasting materials.
On this pair, the combination of dark marble, gilded metal, greenish patina, and glass yields a composition particularly representative of French Art Deco taste in the interwar period.
A decorative and harmonious pair, interesting both for a collection dedicated to Art Deco and for decorating an interior in the spirit of the 1930s.
Very protective and careful shipping
