Description from the seller
Beautiful set of two old Le Creuset terrines, made in France, in enameled cast iron, in the emblematic orange hue of the French manufactory. Two rectangular formats with side handles, witnesses to mid-20th-century French culinary design.
The lot includes a small 1950s model, with a grey enamel interior, and a large model from the late 1950s / early 1960s, with a cream interior. LE CREUSET marking visible under the pieces.
Dimensions:
Small model: H 9 × L 21 × w 13.5 cm – approx. 1 kg
Large model: H 8.5 × L 31 × w 11 cm – approx. 1.2 kg
Total weight without packaging: approx. 2.2 kg
Vintage condition with signs of use, patina and enamel chips, notably on some rims and handles, visible in the photographs.
Le Creuset and the qualities of enameled cast iron
Founded in France in 1925, Le Creuset has become an international reference for enameled cast iron cookware. Its vintage pieces are today particularly valued for their durability, timeless aesthetics, and craftsmanship.
The cast iron has excellent thermal inertia: it absorbs heat and releases it gradually, promoting even and steady cooking. It is especially suited to slow cooking, terrines, pâtés, gratins, and stewed preparations.
The enamel, for its part, forms a protective surface that eases cleaning and prevents direct contact of foods with the iron. It also allows cooking acidic preparations without needing to season the vessel as with raw cast iron.
