A characterful and striking specimen of natural Moldavite, originating from Chlum in South Bohemia, Czech Republic — one of the best-known and most valued finds for this rare natural impact glass.
The specimen has an elongated, almost sculptural shape with a particularly richly developed surface. Deep grooves, fine ripples and jagged, organic structures run over the entire piece and give every viewing angle a different character. Under targeted lighting the natural olive- to yellow-green transparency becomes visible, while the thicker parts show a deeper, almost black-green color. Precisely this strong contrast between transparent and dark zones makes the piece visually particularly attractive.
Moldavite formed about 15 million years ago due to the enormous heat and pressure of the Ries meteorite impact in what is now Germany. The earth materials were melted and flung a great distance, after which it landed as natural glass in parts of Central Europe. Moldavite is therefore not a meteorite itself, but a tektite: natural impact glass that is directly linked with a meteorite impact.
According to the provided provenance information, this specimen comes from a private collection of an experienced Czech Moldavite collector from the South Bohemia region. The piece is offered as 100% natural and originally from Chlum. Because the market is full of imitations, a clear and documented provenance for Moldavite is of great importance.
