Olivetti design chair, model Synthesis by Ettore Sottsass, in red plastic, with dimensions 75 cm high, 50 cm wide and 45 cm deep, weighing 9 kg, produced in Italy (Piemonte) between 1970 and 1980, in used, condition described as discrete with likely small missing parts, sold as a collectible/display item.
Description from the seller
We are listing in an auction a rare Olivetti "Sistema 45" chair, an iconic project by Ettore Sottsass. A piece of design history, ideal for someone seeking a restoration project or a piece of furniture with authentic character.
Stato dell'oggetto:
The chair presents itself in its original condition, with tangible signs of time that tell its story. I have personally started a cleaning and residue removal job (such as vintage adhesive), but the seat surface is currently matte and still shows signs of wear.
This is a piece to be completed: the chair requires further aesthetic finishing work to be brought back to its former splendor.
Nota tecnica importante:
The chair is sold exclusively as a collectible object or for exhibition purposes.
In addition to the aesthetic conditions described above, the absence of the original centering bushing between the seat mechanism and the cross-shaped base is noted. This results in mechanical play that prevents safe everyday use.
Ideale per:
Restorers and collectors seeking an authentic base to work on.
Projects of showroom or studio setups where the industrial "worn" aesthetics is a plus.
An opportunity to acquire an icon of Sottsass's design, purchased with full awareness of the current aesthetic and mechanical conditions.
