Imposing carved and gilt wooden frame dating to 1850–1900, with external dimensions 124 by 74 cm and internal 100 by 50 cm, 9 cm deep, in good condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Impressive cornice made in carved wood, chiselled, plastered with plaster and gilded in fine gold, dating from the early 1900s. The scenographic beauty in appearance and shape, its greatest merit is the carved multi-ordered moulding profile, rich in filigree and the reticulated band.
The front features rich bas-relief decorations meticulously hand-made by master artisans of the period, with phytomorphic motifs and volutes at the corners and in the central areas, interspersed with embossed ornamental elements. These decorations give the impression of a splendid interweaving of floral and foliate volutes that swirl around the corners of the frame and the central cascading zones.
Suggestive is the central band decorated with a reticulation or lozenges (also defined as a "honeycomb").
The inner band is finished with red velvet (textile passe-partout), which creates an elegant color contrast with the gilding and enhances the brightness of the painting.
Refined the outer stepped area, characterized by a braid engraving all around the frame.
The gilding shows a warm and even patina with slight signs of time and minimal wear at the most protruding points.
A frame of notable impact, a masterpiece capable of enriching and contextualizing important works, contributing significantly to their aesthetic presentation. Ideal for museums, galleries and apartments.
