AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Refined Rectangular Writing Desk in Directoire Style with Raised Lip and Compartments

Elegant and precious center-writing desk (or bonheur du jour) characterized by a splendid sinuous, curved line. A timelessly classic piece that blends aesthetics and function, perfect for enriching a gentleman’s study, a drawing room, or a bedroom.

The piece features a perimetric raised lip with small, practical drawers ideal for correspondence, in addition to three main drawers arranged beneath the work surface. The top is adorned with a fixed leather insert (sottomano) in red, with elegant gold-tooled decorations impressed along the edge. The fronts of the drawers and the upper surface are finished with refined fillets and contrasting wood inlays of geometric patterns.

The slender structure rests on four squared, tapered legs, a characteristic element of the Directoire style.

Conditions:
The furniture presents as structurally sound overall. However, as clearly visible in the photographs, the small metal knob of the upper-right raised-lip drawer is missing. There is a small veneer lift and slight surface marks on the leather sottomano, in addition to the normal and physiologically aged signs of time on the wood’s polish, which attest to the piece’s authenticity and era. All other drawers are functional and equipped with their hardware.

Measurements:
* Maximum width: 114 cm
* Working surface height: 75 cm
* Maximum height: 84 cm
* Maximum total depth: 51 cm
* Depth of the working surface: 36 cm

Notes for collection and transport:
The item is located in Rome, where in-person pickup is preferred. Upon request, I am willing to collaborate to locate a specialized mover or courier for delivery throughout Europe, with all costs fully borne by the buyer.
