A wooden service cabinet in mahogany with figured veneer, in late Art Nouveau/Jugendstil style, dating to about 1900–1910 and made in the Netherlands, with a lock, dimensions 198 cm high, 160 cm wide and 55 cm deep, in reasonable condition with heavy use and possible missing small parts, originally used in a hotel interior for storing and presenting tableware and glassware.
Description from the seller
This service cabinet dates from the period 1920–1930 and was produced by H. Pander & Zonen (Hollandia). The cabinet is made of mahogany and finished with beautifully figured veneer, giving it a warm appearance and a sense of richness and quality.
This cabinet originates from a hotel interior, where it was genuinely used for the storage and presentation of tableware and drinking glasses. The entire display section is upholstered, including both the back panel and the base, a feature characteristic of professional hotel furniture and one that enhances the refined presentation of glassware.
The design and craftsmanship show clear influences of late Art Nouveau, with elegant lines and a harmonious balance between function and decoration. At the same time, the cabinet reflects the representative style of the interwar period, created to impress guests in formal and public spaces.
The cabinet shows visible signs of use, consistent with its long and intensive life in a hotel environment. These traces of wear add to its character and tell the story of a piece that has witnessed festive occasions, official meetings and formal gatherings over many years.
An authentic and atmospheric piece of furniture with a tangible history, evoking the elegance and social life of early 20th-century hotel culture.
