HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
This Chevrolet Corvette C3 is registered in the United States on September 15, 1972. In 2021 the car was sold from the Netherlands to Belgium. Here a specialist carried out extensive technical and mechanical work, for which many invoices are available, with a total value of approx. €45,000. Among other things the engine was revised. See our extensive photo report for maintenance specifications. After the rebuild the car has driven only about 1,000 km. The original Corvette 'Owner's Manual' from 1972 is with the car! The car is custom made with a widened body through the use of a polyester widebody kit, which, in combination with the color, gives the car a unique and very aggressive look. Visually, the car could be further improved. The original color of this car is 'War Bonnet Yellow' (color code 989).
Depending on taste, the car could also be restored to this original, beautiful and sought-after yellow color. The year 1972 (with chrome bumpers) is very collectible.
EXTERIOR
A unique and striking appearance: primarily due to the wide body kit installed on this Corvette, in combination with the turquoise color. These modifications were still carried out in the United States. There is a hardtop present in the same color.
Furthermore, the car features a white soft top. The body kit gives the car a completely different look from front to back, highlighting the beautiful lines of the model. The body kit has settled in and was recently updated, but for a perfect exterior the car should be repainted. The rubber seals and chrome work show normal signs of use.
The year 1972 was the production year in which the beautiful chrome bumpers were used, which the car still features. In addition the car has a hardtop in the same color. The turbine wheels from 'American Racing' are spectacular and fitted with 'General Grabber HP' tires with white raised letters. The brake calipers are painted red.
INTERIOR
The interior is largely original and shows normal signs of use. The interior trim code is 417, which stands for 'Saddle Vinyl'. Naturally, the upholstery is finished with vinyl-leather.
The brown interior features large gauges for the driver that are deeply recessed into the dashboard. The center console houses 5 additional gauges. Furthermore, the interior is relatively luxurious, with heating and a radio. It also features the clever 'Astro Ventilation'.
This means ventilation openings at the front of the cabin and ventilation openings at the back, right behind the rear window. The air flows from the hood to the cabin and exits again through the rear ventilation openings.
TECHNICAL
Under this unique body lies a thoroughly upgraded car: from the chassis to the braking system, generously invested. See our photo report for extensive specifications. Among other things, wheel bearings, brake calipers, shock absorbers (Bilstein), the fuel tank and the clutch have been renewed. The brakes are equipped with vented discs.
The engine has been completely rebuilt, with the block removed from the car. Among Corvette enthusiasts this is considered the holy grail among engines: the LT-1 'Small-block' 5.7-liter '350 Turbo-Fire' V8 engine. This engine was originally supplied for the Corvette C3 and is a technical masterpiece: a high-compression small-block with solid lifters, forged crankshaft, 4-bolt main block, aggressive camshaft and freely breathing exhaust system.
With about 360 hp, this engine delivers impressive performance and a characterful, raw V8 experience. The radiator is aluminum. The exhaust system with spaghetti exhaust manifold is custom-made by Inox and produces an unforgettable sound. This engine is paired with a manual 4-speed transmission. A pleasant option that the Corvette has is power steering.
Both the underside and the engine bay look very good. This Corvette is therefore ready for its next owner.
GENERAL
The Corvette Stingray from the early 1970s represents the absolute culmination of classic American sports cars. With its muscular lines, integrated fender flares and iconic chrome bumpers (up to 1972) this generation combines timeless design with uncompromising performance. Under the hood Chevrolet offered an impressive range of engines, with the legendary LT1 at the top.
With around 360 hp and race-inspired technology, the Stingray held its own against European sports cars of renown — but with unmistakable American character. Not for nothing did Motor Trend record a quarter-mile time of 14.36 seconds in 1970 — performance that at the time rivaled European top-class sports cars. The interior was refined with better-shaped seats and luxury options such as wood inlays and high-quality carpeting and leather upholstery.
These model years also mark the end of an era: the last Corvettes with fully chrome bumpers, high-compression engines and unfiltered V8 experience before stricter emissions rules came into play. Rare versions and options make this Stingray particularly sought after by collectors today.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
