HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
The MG TC is one of the most iconic British sports cars of the 1940s and is often regarded as the car that sparked a worldwide love for classic roadsters. This example was delivered in 1948 to the United States, as was the case for most. In 2003 the car came into the possession of the first and current Dutch owner, who has therefore owned it for 23 years. During this time the car has been cherished and used for classic car events, such as the Elfstedentocht classic rally. During this period the engine was rebuilt and the car has been well maintained. The car is stored indoors. A file with extensive documentation accompanies the car: appraisals, invoices for parts, a registration certificate from 1996, and maintenance records. In 2025 the car was appraised at € 33,000.

EXTERIOR
In the past the paintwork was professionally repainted in the attractive color British Racing Green, which is still in good condition. This pairs beautifully with the beige canvas top. It is not in brand-new condition but operates smoothly. The bodywork is clean and in good condition with no signs of rust or damage. Notably, the car remains in its original state, with only light signs of use. Chrome, lighting, glass, and rubbers are also in good condition. The gray-painted wire wheels are likewise in good condition. Beneath the color-matched grille sits a badge bar. The blue license plates feature luxury raised lettering. The MG TC has a classic look with loose fenders, wire wheels, a narrow grille, and an open two-seat body. Everything about the car breathes British automotive history.

INTERIOR
The interior is in good condition and features green leather upholstery, with no cracking or damage. The wooden dashboard is in good condition and houses characteristic instruments and a Pebble Beach badge from 1956. The mats and door panels are also in good condition. Only the center console shows a slight wear spot. The odometer runs inconsistently. The interior is minimalist yet atmospheric, with a large steering wheel that directly connects the driver to the car’s mechanics.

TECHNICAL
Over the years the MG has been well maintained and parts renewed. In the Netherlands the engine was rebuilt in 2010, during which the steering gear was also adjusted. No cost was spared to keep the car in a good drivable condition. The underside is also in good condition with no rust. New T/T Classis tires have been fitted all around. A service was carried out again in 2024. The car drives, brakes, and shifts well.

GENERAL
The MG TC was built between 1945 and 1949 and was based on the pre-war MG TB. Despite its simple design, the car made a strong impression thanks to its light weight, open body, and pure driving experience. Under the hood lies a 1.25-liter four-cylinder engine with about 54 hp. That may seem modest today, but due to the low weight and compact construction the MG TC offered surprisingly sporty performance for its time. The car has a manual four-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive, providing a pure, mechanical driving feel.
A notable fact is that the MG TC became hugely popular in the United States, while the car was originally aimed mainly at the British market. American soldiers stationed in Europe after World War II often brought an MG home with them. This created a strong interest in lightweight European sports cars in America — something that would later contribute to the rise of brands like Jaguar and Porsche on the American market. Another striking detail is that the MG TC was technically quite old-fashioned, even for its time. For example, it still had right-hand drive, also in many export models for America. Yet enthusiasts found that authentic character attractive. The direct steering feel, open driving experience, and simple mechanical design made every journey special. Additionally, the MG TC is often regarded as one of the founding fathers of the modern hobby around classic sports cars and oldtimers. Many collectors started their passion for classic cars with an MG from this period. Thanks to its relatively simple technology, many parts are still available today, making restoration projects popular.
Today the MG TC is a beloved classic that regularly appears at classic car events, rallies, and historic drives. The combination of elegance, history, and pure driving pleasure ensures that the car still commands much admiration more than 75 years later. It remains not only a beautiful classic sports car but also an important part of international automotive history.
