HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
The Suzuki LJ80 is not just a small off-roader. It is a compact piece of engineering with the soul of a mountain goat. At first glance it looks almost like a toy: narrow track, tall and narrow tires, small fenders, and a vertical windscreen. But as soon as you start the engine, you realize that this Suzuki comes from an era when 4x4s were not built to impress, but simply to get anywhere. The example we offer is a beloved early-built specimen with its first registration on 28 November 1980. The car was fully restored around 2019, with both visually and technically the car thoroughly overhauled. Many technical manuals are included with the car. Fully roadworthy, the car was brought to us from Italy.
EXTERIOR
Visually, the car is a beauty: the lovely beige color has been repainted and the original wheels are fitted with good Michelin 4x4 tires. The original bodywork features a canvas roof, which is in good condition and can be opened. This specimen is in an original condition, unlike many converted examples. Visually the car is in very good condition with an original configuration. In front of the grille are fine Carello driving lights. Minimal signs of use and a spot on the left screen are present.
INTERIOR
The interior is entirely geared toward ease of use and off-road driving. The dashboard has a minimalist design with analog gauges, simple switches, and little luxury equipment. The seating position is upright and airy for such a small car, with simple seats and a practical layout. The interior has been restored and is in excellent condition. The seats are upholstered in black cowhide. The rear houses the spare wheel.
MECHANICS
The small 797 cc four-cylinder engine delivers 41 hp and emits an honest, mechanical sound that you rarely hear nowadays. No complicated electronics, no superfluous luxuries, no frills. Only pure engineering: rigid axles, leaf springs, a transfer case, and exceptional lightness. With a weight of just over 800 kilograms, the LJ80 weighs less than many modern city cars. And yet this little Suzuki grows large when the terrain gets tough. On narrow mountain trails where larger off-roaders struggle, the LJ80 moves almost effortlessly forward. It sometimes seems as if it could topple at any moment, yet it keeps climbing undeterred. The LJ80 carries all the charm of the seventies: drum brakes, slow steering, and primitiveness. The car is technically extensive and drives, brakes, and shifts well. Under the hood, the car is in excellent condition as well.
