Representation: He appears in the dark monastic habit, a long beard, and the right hand over the chest, a gesture characteristic of humility and prayer. His serene and slightly inclined gaze conveys spiritual contemplation.
Who was Saint Serafim of Sarov?

He was a monk and hermit of the Sarov Monastery, famous for:

- His intense life of prayer and asceticism.
- The years he spent as a hermit in the forest.
- His teaching on the acquisition of the Holy Spirit.
- His greeting to visitors: "Christ has risen, my joy!", even outside the Easter season.
- His deep devotion to the Virgin Mary.

He was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1903, in a ceremony presided over by Tsar Nicholas II.
