Akuré - Fang - Gabon

Ancient Fang Akuré torque, cast in brass-bronze. These necklaces, known as 'ngos' in the Fang language, were worn by women as a symbol of protection and spiritual connection; they could be heavy and elaborately decorated, and were closed with a hammer around the women's necks. Their main function was to ensure the husband’s return in case of abandonment of the home, which made them valuable not only for personal use but also for their cultural and religious significance.
