Pair of Art Deco bookends – Danvin – Patinated régule and Portor marble – France, circa 1930
Very elegant pair of Art Deco bookends in régule with an antique bronze patina, depicting two stylized birds with the geometric lines characteristic of the 1930s aesthetic.
The sculptures are signed Danvin and rest on beautiful bases in Portor black marble, whose golden veins especially highlight the patina of the metal. The clean drawing of the birds, with finely chased wings, perfectly illustrates the Art Deco taste for the stylization of animal forms.
The set is original and shows a fine quality of manufacture. The patina is well preserved and the marble shows only slight signs of use compatible with age.
