Description from the seller

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.

A small Neolithic hand-carved hardstone figurine depicting a highly stylised figure in a seated position. The figure has a rounded, featureless head set upon a short neck. The lower body is strongly emphasised, with two broad rounded forms representing the thighs, knees or buttocks.

The figure is most likely a female figure, representing a fertility amulet from the Eastern Mediterranean.

-> Small anthropomorphic figurines were produced throughout many Neolithic cultures of Europe and the eastern Mediterranean. Figures with emphasised breasts, abdomen, hips or thighs were traditionally interpreted as representations of fertility, motherhood or a prehistoric “Mother Goddess”.

Size: ± 24,8 x 19,6 mm

Condition: good and solid condition. The stone has an attractive reddish-brown colour with dark natural mottling, areas of surface polish, deposits and wear. The figure can be displayed unsupported.

Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for all lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher.
