Images are of the batch that will be shipped; the stones range in size from about 0.3 to 0.9 cm.

From a mineralogical point of view, this is a precious variety of beryl (beryllium aluminum silicate). Its unmistakable color is due to traces of chromium and sometimes vanadium within the crystal structure.

It grades 7.5–8 on the Mohs scale. While it is hard, it is fragile due to frequent internal inclusions, making it excellent for use in jewelry.
