Description from the seller

Resurrection of Christ.

It is a painting of Eastern Christian tradition (or heavily influenced by it), though with Western features in the composition and the modeling of the figures.
The risen Christ occupies the center of the composition, with a golden nimbus around his head.
He wears a red mantle, symbol of his victory and of his sacrifice.
In his left hand he holds the standard of the Resurrection (the cross with the white banner), a characteristic attribute of the triumphant Christ.
His outstretched arms express the triumph over death.

On both sides appear two angels, who announce the Resurrection and guard the tomb.

At the bottom is visible a sleeping or fallen soldier, one of the guards of the tomb mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew (28:2-4), surprised by the miraculous event.

By its style, the dark palette, the composition and the treatment of the figures, it is a work from the late eighteenth century or the first half of the nineteenth century.
