The Gouro constitute one of the most important ethnic groups in Côte d'Ivoire. They are regarded, together with the Gagou/Gban, as the oldest peoples in the territory. Gouro women are renowned as fierce entrepreneurs, leaders in the farming sector. The Zaouli mask/dance, inscribed on UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list since December 6, 2017, is an Ivorian cultural showcase.
