Description from the seller

Jan van der Vaart (1931-2000) is regarded as one of the leading Dutch ceramists of the 20th century. Especially his geometrically abstract forms gained followers all across Europe. An important principle for him was the functionality of his objects. “Vases are there for flowers,” was one of his statements. Van der Vaart is also the man behind the reinvention of the famous tulip vases as they were produced in Delft at the end of the 17th century.

Although he designed series products for Royal Tichelaar Makkum and Rosenthal AG, it is mainly his unique pieces that remain beloved collector’s items. This spun earthenware vase with lilac-pink semi-matte glaze he made in 1980. This glaze is evident in his use of series objects in bright pink, lilac and blue. Similar uniques arose in the same period. This vase is signed and dated.
