About Carnotaurus sastrei

Carnotaurus sastrei lived during the Late Cretaceous, approximately 72–69 million years ago, in what is now Patagonia, Argentina.

Discovered in 1984, Carnotaurus is one of the best-preserved abelisaurid dinosaurs ever found. It is instantly recognizable thanks to the pair of thick horns projecting above its eyes, giving rise to its name, which means "meat-eating bull."

Unlike the long, narrow skulls of many other theropods, Carnotaurus possessed a short, deep, and powerfully built skull. This unique construction, combined with exceptionally strong neck muscles, allowed it to deliver rapid, forceful strikes while pursuing prey.

Its long hind limbs and lightweight body suggest it was one of the fastest large predatory dinosaurs, capable of sprinting across the open floodplains of ancient South America. Growing up to 8 meters (26 ft) in length, Carnotaurus was the dominant terrestrial predator of its ecosystem.
