Description from the seller
Rare & Magnificent Antique English Blairs Tea Service – Mid-20th Century
An exceptionally well-preserved and seldom encountered Blairs English porcelain tea service dating from the mid-20th century. Complete examples of this pattern, particularly in such outstanding condition, are becoming increasingly difficult to find, making this an exceptional opportunity for collectors and admirers of fine English porcelain.
Gracefully decorated with elegant cherry blossom branches inspired by traditional East Asian artistry, each piece displays remarkable depth, balance, and refinement. The beautifully painted blossoms flow naturally across the porcelain, while the richly decorated interiors of the cups add a level of craftsmanship rarely found on everyday tea services.
The original hand-applied gold gilding remains exceptionally bright, retaining virtually all of its original lustre with no visible wear, rubbing, or fading. Equally impressive, the porcelain still preserves its original high-gloss finish, with no stacking scratches or abrasion marks caused by the cups and saucers rubbing together, confirming that the service has seen only very light use throughout its lifetime.
Set Includes
1 Lidded Teapot
1 Sugar Bowl
11 Cups
11 Saucers
Condition
Overall, the service is in exceptional antique condition with no chips, no impact damage, no broken pieces, and no repairs.
For complete transparency, the teapot has one fine, stable hairline. The sugar bowl has only a very short, delicate hairline, and three saucers each display a light, stable hairline visible upon close inspection. These minor age-related imperfections do not detract from the beauty, stability, or display quality of this remarkable set.
As is occasionally found with authentic hand-finished English porcelain of the period, the service also exhibits several original factory production variations. Some cups are unmarked on the base, while others bear factory backstamps in different colours. One cup also has a small unglazed area beneath the handle where the porcelain was not completely finished during manufacture. These are original manufacturing characteristics that reflect the traditional production methods of the period.
A remarkably complete, highly decorative, and beautifully preserved Blairs tea service, combining timeless elegance, vibrant decoration, brilliant original gilding, and exceptional craftsmanship. A superb addition to any serious porcelain collection or an elegant centrepiece destined to be admired for generations to come.
